Project #4 - Kaleidascopes
Project #4 - Contrast and Balance
In this project, we explored the uses of contrast (scale, size, value, shape, and texture) and balance (radial, symmetrical, and asymmetrical). I discovered different artists that used these different techniques, and found how to use them on my own. When making the kaleidoscopes, I found out how to create radial and symmetrical balance with any picture I wanted to. I had a really fun time making the kaleidoscopes because no matter what you did or how much you screwed up, they would always turn out to look very interesting.

Project #3 - Final Color Grids and Photos
Warm ------>

My Grid photos:
My Edited Photos:
In this project, I explored the possibilities of how color can effect the mood and tone of a picture. I also learnt about the different colors that match together, and how they affect our perception of art and feelings. When making the grid, I learnt about how the position and layout of certain photos can create art.

Contact Sheet
Photographers use contact sheets to compare their original photos to the edited versions, and view all photos one one page. It's also used to decide which photos are their best. I created my contact sheet by picking out my favorite photos, editing them, and putting them all on to a 6 x 6 sheet.
Here are some of my favorite photos I took for this project. I took them with my iPhone 6 on the walking field trip, with all the framing and composition techniques in mind. I chose them as my best photos because I think they all accurately represent each of the techniques and are edited well.

Elements and Principles of Design
In this project, I selected some photos that I think fitted into each of the elements and principles of art. The photos on the left side of the column, I found online, and I took the ones on the right on my self. The difference between elements and principles is that elements are specific things in a picture, and principles are rules that a whole picture abides. Principles are much more broad than elements. Something I noticed during this project is that it's super easy to accidentally emphasize things in a picture. If you have leading lines, or specific colorways, something will always be emphasized.

My Summer
The best part of my Summer was definitely going to England and France with my family. We spent the first half of the trip in London and Portsmouth visiting family and travelling the country, and the second half in Entraveux, France. England was a little overwhelming since we had to see lots of family members and do a lot of walking, but it was still fun. France, however, was the complete opposite. We did nothing for the entire week but swim in a river and play in the nearby field. We were staying in an old renovated barn that belonged to my aunt. It was very rustic and you could tell that a lot of work had gone into renovating it. There was no service or wifi, so I spent a lot of my time reading and writing, and cutting up magazines for posters. My aunt and cousin came along with us which was nice because we hadn't seen them for a while. Since there was no one living by us though, I felt very isolated. It was a 20 minute drive to the closest town, and it was a very dangerous road. The view was incredible though. You could see miles over the alpine mountains and the sunset was stunning every night. One of the downsides was the mosquitoes though. It was unusual for mosquitoes to inhabit that part of France, but they came in masses. I think at my most I had been bitted more than 40 times, more than I have ever been in my entire life.
